My mother (Elsie Wilson) left a great comment after
this recent post about the importance of Wait Time. I especially like the "breathing" analogy -- that's particularly true of our hearing loss kids for quite awhile after they first get access to sound.

Your mom is so very right about children taking things in long before they demonstrate their knowledge. With language, you can see the effect with the receptive language being far ahead of expressive language in toddlers. With Matt, my little guy with an articulation problem, we will work on a new sound for a week or so. Then we'll drop it, and suddenly he'll start pronouncing it- weeks later! It takes a while for those brain connections to form.
